Biography
Edward Stewart has served as a public speaker since 1994 and continues to work with high school students, colleges and business organizations alike. Ed Stewart passionately shares his championship blue print and personal experiences to help others achieve EXCELLENCE.
A community leader, Stewart has been recognized by the Columbia Business Times "40 under 40" as one of the top 40 community leaders under 40 years old. He led a record setting United Way Campaign raising almost $500,000 for families in need, and has served on the boards of Special Olympics Missouri and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
A native of Chicago, Stewart holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Arts in Adult and Continuing Education from Michigan State University. The team captain of the 1994 Nebraska National Championship Football Team, Stewart was named the Big Eight Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was a Butkus Award finalist and a consensus All-American Linebacker in 1994. Stewart played two years of professional football, most recently with the St. Louis Rams in 1996. In 2001, Stewart was named to the Nebraska Football All-Century team, and in 2004, was inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame.
Ed currently enters his first year as a member of the senior management team with the Big 12 Conference office. As Assistant Commissioner for Football and Student Services, Stewart's responsibilities include sport management for football and student-athlete welfare initiatives for the Conferences 12 member institutions. Additionally, Stewart has the responsibility to lead Conference diversity and gambling initiatives.
Stewart has served as an athletic administrator for nine years, most recently, as an executive staff member and Associate Athletic Director for Administration at the University of Missouri. In this role Stewart oversaw the football program, Olympic sports and other support areas, negotiated contracts, directed searches that helped land top-notch personnel, and was instrumental in record fundraising initiatives. He also played a pivotal role in leading the university outreach initiatives, strategic planning, facility master plan, annual departmental goals, and policy and procedure efforts.
